Dr. Cumming earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry (Summa cum laude) at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY. He received his M.D. degree from SUNY at the Buffalo School of Medicine in Buffalo, New York. He subsequently completed his surgical training at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. At the same institution, he completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care.

Dr. Cumming's publications include topics ranging from general surgery to trauma/critical care. His special interests are in Trauma, Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery. Presently, Dr. Cumming is the Trauma Medical Director at Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids, MN.

Dr. Cumming is a member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST), PanAmerican Trauma Society, Hitchcock Surgical Society, Minnesota Medical Association, Minneapolis Surgical Society and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Cumming and his wife, Eileen, a Pediatrician, enjoy water sports, biking, travel and music with their three children.
