History
The group commenced in the early 70's with two physicians. It evolved into Specialists in General Surgery (SGS) in 1980 with four surgeons. Since then the group expanded to nine surgeons. SGS is a full service general surgery group providing quality, innovative surgical services to patients of the northwest metropolitan area and central Minnesota area. All surgeons are Board Certified or Board eligible.
SGS physicians provide complete personalized surgical coverage with a high level of service commitment to the communities in which we serve. The highly skilled, professional surgeons and staff work with the patient and referring physician in a spirit of team partnership to ensure high quality patient care. Consultations, questions, and suggestions are always welcomed. As a team, the physicians and staff seek service excellence and continuous improvement in every area of the practice.

Organizational Structure
Specialists in General Surgery is comprised of a President, Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Dana M Carlson MD is the current president with the following physicians as Board members: J. Kevin Croston MD, Jonathan C. Gipson MD, Susan E. Hunt MD, Steven J. Kern MD, Matthew K. Kissner MD.
